CODA Studio were tasked with revitalising a range of under-utilised rooms and nondescript transit spaces at Murdoch University’s Mandurah Campus in WA. The result is a colourful interpretation of a modern tertiary facility with ample space for students to interact and collaborate. The Australian made and designed Arbor Bench and Table by Urban Commons, as well as Spike Stools and Table by Stylecraft, create welcoming seating options in open indoor/outdoor social spaces.
The project, which has been shortlisted for the 2017 Interior Design Excellence Awards in the Institutional category, is highlighted by artworks from the university’s collection of mid-century Eastern European posters which informed CODA’s chosen palette of navy, grey, burnt orange and yellow. This palette is reinforced by the colours chosen for Plop ottomans by ESO, which are complemented by Stylus Tables by Stylecraft and Aki Stools by Feelgood Designs. The design of these spaces allows for independent and group study spaces for Murdoch University students.
